Since the Championships began the title has been passed all over the world from Scotland to Ireland, Canada and Australia making it a true world event and one that is growing every year and becoming more and more popular a spectacle with the general public and fans of pipe and traditional Celtic music.
A look at the honours list sees the Strathclyde Police Band dominating with a staggering 20 wins starting in 1920 and last winning as Strathclyde in 1991. Other notable winners being the 78th Fraser highlanders Pipe Band from Canada who were the very first winners outside of the United Kingdom to win the title. In 2007 the title went to Northern Ireland for the fourth time in 6 years with Field Marshal Montgomery Band.
