The dark history of the Scottish Highlands is explored in this series, presented by "Taggart" star John Michie. Produced by SMG Productions, 'Highlands' is a fascinating, in-depth look at the Highland Clearances, the historical period which saw tens of thousands of Highlanders brutally evicted from their homes during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and the political, social and religious events that preceded it.
In the series John visits many of the spectacular locations that were affected by the events, including Culloden, Glenfinnan, Urquhart Castle, Strathcarron and Durness. On his journey, he meets local highlanders and historical experts, including the Earl of Cromartie, Chief of Clan Mackenzie; and well-known author and historian Jim Hunter, to learn more about this brutal and violent time in Scottish history.
