Jimmy Shand "The Story" BOOK

Jimmy Shand "The Story" BOOK
Id: 1609

The first full-length biography of the late ‘King of Scottish Dance Music,’ arguably, the most popular musician in Scottish history. Recordings of his music can be found in households and music shops all over the world.

Jimmy Shand, however, was also one of Scotland’s most private citizens and 'The Jimmy Shand Story' provides a unique insight into the man who was Jimmy Shand: his achievements and disappointments; his family and friends; his early struggles and his life after retirement. Never has he spoken so openly about his life; from his boyhood in Fife, through the early years as an amateur accordion player, to his thoughts on approaching his 90th birthday (28 January 1998).

Sadly, the man himself is no longer with us, but this book is a fascinating and fitting tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest ambassadors. Dozens of personalities contribute their memories of Jimmy Shand and his band – including George Chisholm, Jimmie MacGregor, Robbie Shepherd – but they particularly remember the shy, sensitive, family man, who did so much for other people.

The book includes a massive listing of Jimmy Shand's recordings – vinyl, cassette, CD – as well as his sheet music compositions and arrangements.
