Fats Domino - The Very Best Of Fats Domino - 180G Red Vinyl LP: Antoine Domino Jr. was born in New Orleans on 26 February 1928. He began playing Boogie-Woogie Piano in the city’s bustling Honky-Tonks, where he was spotted by Producer David Bartholomew. He persuaded him to start recording in 1949 and the result was The Fat Man, and the career of the 224lb Fats Domino began. The first of 61 hits he would score on the R&B charts. It has long been hailed as the first Rock & Roll record, though Fats modestly responded: “I wouldn’t want to say that I started it, but I don’t remember anyone else before me playing that kind of stuff.” The crossover hits began in 1955, when Ain’t That A Shame reached No.10 on the Pop charts. Fats reached his peak in October 1956 when his cover of the standard Blueberry Hill reached No.2 in the U.S. The bulk of material featured in this collection was written by Fats and Bartholomew. For much of the 1950’s, this records could be heard on juke boxes, radios and television programmes. I’m Walkin’, I Wasn’t To Walk You Home and Ain’t That A Shames being prime examples. He would influence legendary musical figures who had been inspired by the man, and the music on this collection.
